Inspired by Kindle Africa’s long-standing work with Makoko women, the Adugbo Mentoring Project was collaboratively created with Kindle Africa in 2019 to provide a safe space and help Makoko teenagers navigate and push against the rampant but normalized rape culture within the community. Secondarily, the project seeks to equip Makoko teenagers with the skills and experiences they require to transform their future prospects and leapfrog their community’s development.
The program is made up of three main parts.
Monthly club sessions are practical and intellectually stimulating workshops that engage teenagers in areas such as sexual health, gender-based violence/community issues, goal setting, decision making, self-discovery and etiquette, among others. Club sessions are held every first Saturday of the month.
Each teenager is assigned to a mentor who corresponds with them beyond the monthly club meetings and supports them through their learning and growth process.
With the guidance of the mentors, the mentee will carry out a community development project.

Kindly support the Adugbo Project
At the peak of COVID 19, the Adugbo project was put on hold but we remained in touch via phone with the students. Upon learning that our students and their families were struggling to cover their basic needs, we stepped up and organized a global fundraiser that allowed Unveiling Africa to provide two months worth of food supplies to the 24 families. We raised ₦1,071,299.81 which was used to supply rice, beans, palm oil, groundnut oil, salt, cleaning supplies and so much more.
- Resource Centre
Creating a resource centre is what we are gearing towards. The centre will be a hub that will have computers, books, office space, amongst other tools that will consolidate the work that has been done so far. The decision to develop a resource centre is based on the needs as identified by the community. It will assist the children with academic tutoring, extra-curricular development, and life skills.
