Our torch bearer; Nigeria’s Idol

A torch bearer is a person who leads or inspires others by working towards a valued goal. On Sunday, Tobi Amusan broke the internet by doing something nobody has ever done in world history. Since then, everybody in Nigeria and beyond has been to be singing her praise. This victory has gotten her special recognition from the fastest man in the world and a lot of media houses. Our inspiration Oluwatobiloba Ayomide “Tobi” Amusan is a Nigerian track and field athlete specializing in the 100-meter hurdles and competing as a sprinter. She has broken the world record twice in the women’s 100-meter hurdle event, helping her team win the gold medal. She established a World Record in a global competition, becoming the first Nigerian athlete to do so in history.

She didn’t only win gold but obliterated the world record in an astonishing semi-final where she clocked 12.12sec, powered over the line at Hayward Field in 12.06sec.

Tobi has become an internet sensation overnight; with tens of thousands of people wondering how she did it. As a torchbearer in her field, Tobi put in the work behind the scenes to achieve the greatness everyone is celebrating today and with the following element, she surpassed her mates with an astonishing semi-final of 12.06secs powered over the line at Hayward Field;

  1. Grit
  2. Determination
  3. Focus
  4. Hard-work
  5. God

With these elements, Tobi has proved to the world the power of the mind and the power of her will. Reference has been made to her post in 2016 where she vowed that she will be unforgettable and will persist until she succeeds.

Watching Oluwatobiloba Amusan sing the Nigerian National Anthem with tears streaming down her face and the Nigerian flag hanging higher than others gave me something to think about, which resurrected the hope and optimism that Bishop Kukah vehemently spoke about in our last Re-rooting in African History Program. If everybody will stand as torch bearers in their various fields of work and study, with eyes on the price holding integrity, diligence, truth, service and dignity in hands, we will arise again, shining with pride in our blackness.

Second Stanza: Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause,

Guide our leader’s right

Help our youth the truth to know

In love and honesty to grow

And living just and true

Great lofty heights attain

To build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.

The Nigerian national prayer gives hopes and strength to many, unveiling the hidden truth before our eyes which is that there is hope, for Africans both in Africa and in the diaspora. If we decide to arise as one with one voice to continuously leave our imprints all over the world, the new Africa will emerge.

Unveiling Africa heritage foundation has become a torchbearer by creating a club called transformers club to build and groom culturally grounded thought leaders among children and teenagers, rooting them in their, history, culture and intent in making their world a better place starting from their community.
