An African History & Political Education Program for Secondary Schools
The Transformers Program- An African History & Political Education Program for Secondary Schools, is an experiential learning and leadership program that immerses and engages Nigerian secondary school students with African-centered history in a simplified, personalised and relatable way. The program is a response to the dangerous absence of African centered and social justice perspectives on Nigerian history in the Nigerian education system.
Objectives and Goals:
Knowledge and impacts of indigenous identities
Inspire a new breed of young political leadership
Core skills development ( data gathering, critical thinking, research, presentation and problem-solving)
Development of a sense of personal and communial history that predates colonial times.
Component of the Program:
There are three main components of the Transformers Program. These are
Experiential theorty, An exploration of contemporary issues in Africa
Exposure to participatory action research methodologies.
Social change project that involves student identifying social issues and solving them
For Africa to develop and transform herself, her citizens must know who they are, they must be proud of their heritage, intellectually attuned to the needs of the community and world at large, and have the capacity to lead transformatively. Read More
